History

In August 1958, Christ Temple was organized at a meeting in a little storefront church on 145th Street in Harlem. Elder James I. Clark, Sr., Mother Rachel Clark and a number of other ministers, deacons and missionaries banded together to launch the new church. The first official home of Christ Temple was on the second floor of a building on the corner of Seventh Avenue and 132nd Street.

The church moved to several different locations in those early years, the most notable being 507-09 W. 125th Street. During that period, the health of the Pastor, who had by this time been consecrated as a bishop, began to fail. Thus it was that on September 14, 1969, Elder James I. Clark, Jr. (Bishop Clark’s son) was installed as Pastor. Under the leadership of Elder Clark, the Lord led Christ Temple to its current home, 13-17 W. 128th Street, in August 1978.

Over these years, numerous persons have blessed this ministry and have been blessed by it. Throughout its history, Christ Temple has remained steadfast in its responsibility to preach the gospel, disciple those who come to Christ, prepare them for service, and to provide support for those in our faith community and beyond.
